Dota 2 eSports – Things to Know About the Game
If you’re a good Dota 2 player, then you’re lucky – the complexity of the game often makes it difficult for some people to master it. You have to choose the best heroes and come up with the best strategies to beat your opponents. It’s only then that you can participate in Dota 2 eSports as a player. But whether you are a beginner wanting to become a professional or not, there’s nothing like being informed about the game. You never know when you’ll be one step ahead from someone when it comes to Dota eSports knowledge. With that said, here are some things to know about the famous PC game.
The Early Days of Dota 2 eSports
Dota has its roots in the early days of StarCraft. There was a map in the game, known as Aeon of Strife. On this map, the player was able to control a powerful hero unit. In order to succeed on this map, you had to be very careful and had to be in the right place at the right time. With an AI-controlled base and army, you had to destroy the base of the enemy.
In 2003, after Warcraft 3 was released, Eul, a known modder, started developing a similar map. It was known as DotA, short for Defense of the Ancients, and it could support up to 10 players. Heroes could be controlled with RTS-style point-and-click control. But Eul stopped working on the game point and stepped back. As such, other modders tried to develop DotA, and the one that managed to shine above all others was Steve Feak.
Known as Guinsoo, he was able to develop DOTA: Allstars. Steve Mescon joined Guinsoo in the development, and he was also the one who created the forum of the DOTA community. When Guinsoo wanted to step back, he gave the reins to Abdul “IceFrog” Ismail. Over time, IceFrog kept adding more stuff to the game and making it more balanced.
After some time, in 2010, IceFrog made an announcement that he was leading a team at Valve, and the company also announced Dota 2. After a lot of developments, the game was released in 2013. Since then, it became one of the most popular electronic sports. The eSports Dota 2 field is one of the biggest ones in the industry.
How to Play Dota 2
Whether you want to become a known player in the eSports industry or just play for yourself, knowing how to play Dota is essential. If you don’t really know how to play, that needs to stop now.
In Dota 2, you will be in a team with several other people, and each one of you will be using a certain hero and will have his/her own role. The main goal is to defend your base, but also work to destroy the enemy base. Every hero is unique and has its own abilities, which you need to take advantage of. As you advance on the map, you will inevitably meet with your enemies, and you will have to engage in combat with them and even protect your teammates depending on your role.
You have to collect items and points in order to make it more likely for you to beat the other team. Whoever destroys the “Ancient” of the enemy, aka the structure within the base, will be the winning team.
Final Thoughts
While being complex and requiring a lot of knowledge and dedication to be able to master it, Dota 2 is really fun, especially if you love competitions. The eSport Dota 2 lets you pick from a lot of heroes, and it is also a good way to connect with other people who love it just as much as you do. That being said, if you are into the eSport Dota, this information should come in handy. Don’t overlook the fact that there are electronic sports tournaments every year that are organized for Dota 2, so you might want to check those out too when you have the chance.
